A mobile first-aid technician bandaging an employee's arm at a worksite

Real Worksites. Real Injuries. Kept Minor.

A cut, a strain, something in an eye. Minor injuries happen in every industry, and how you respond decides whether they stay minor. Our case studies show how employers use mobile first aid to get injured employees care right where they work, without the clinic trip, the lost hours, or the extra paperwork.

A Rope Burn, Not a Vessel Left Waiting

At a glance

Injury:
Rope burn to the forearm while handling a mooring line
Care provided:
Assessment, cooling of the burn, appropriate cleaning of the area, and a non-adherent dressing with a loose gauze wrap
Outcome:
Managed with first aid; employee continued working with minimal disruption.

The situation

An employee on a line-handling crew at a marine terminal was helping tie up an arriving vessel when a mooring line surged and ran across the inside of their forearm, just above the glove. The skin was red, raw, and starting to blister. A coworker offered to pop the blister so it wouldn't get in the way. That's a common instinct, but an intact blister helps protect the skin underneath.

The response

The supervisor made one call, and a first-aid technician arrived at the worksite. The technician assessed the burn, checking its size and depth and looking for signs that could point to something more than first aid. They cooled the burn, appropriately cleaned the area while leaving the blister intact, and applied a non-adherent dressing with a loose gauze wrap to protect it.

The outcome

The injury was managed with first aid, and the employee continued working at the employer's direction. The crew finished securing the vessel, cargo operations started on schedule, and no one had to leave the worksite.

Why it mattered

The employee received appropriate care right where they were, and the vessel wasn't left waiting. Instead of a drive to an off-site facility, a possible lengthy wait, and care that could turn a minor injury into a bigger deal, the injury was managed with first aid on the worksite.

This is a composite scenario based on the types of calls first-aid technicians handle. Details have been changed and don't describe any specific person or company. Every injury is different.
